Who can attend this course?

• PhD-students and postdoctoral fellows who have some experience in EM and want to use CryoEM / Tomography and /or learn advanced imaging techniques can be given preference. Students without experience will also be considered provided they show that these techniques will be useful in their current research project.
• Faculties (teachers) and researchers from reputed academic/technical institutions and manufacturing, service and private/government organisations including R&D laboratories who want to use this technique in their research/lab.
• Protein crystallographers who wanted to know and use this technique as hybrid technique in their research, but could not do it so far.

Participants should be able to return to their home labs and use the techniques they have learnt at the course in their projects. A nominal registration fee as shown below will be charged per participant.

Selection of participants

Participants to the course will be selected from the pool of online applications received based on their CV, current research project, relevant skills, future plans and most importantly the quality of the submitted abstract. They will have to write a statement of purpose, why attendance at the course would further the applicant's own research. Student participants have to send a letter of recommendation from their guides. All participants will be asked to present posters on their research work, relevant to this course, at the meeting.

Application Work Flow

Step 1: Those who wish to participate in this course should first “web register” at GIAN “Courses Registration Portal”: http://www.gian.iitkgp.ac.in/ GREGN/index. Follow instructions on the portal and submit login details with brief academic details. A one-time lifetime registration fee of INR 500 is required to register on this GIAN portal. With this one time lifetime registration, you can apply for as many courses as possible on the GIAN website. If you have already registered for this or another course at this website, skip step 1 and go to step 2.

Step 2: Applicants then need click “Course Registration” tab at the GIAN Portal http://www.gian.iitkgp.ac.in/ GREGN/index. The list of courses will be displayed. Now check the ‘check box’ to select “Cryo Electron Microscopy and 3D Image Processing of Macromolecular Assemblies and Cellular Tomography (CEM3DIP)” course from the list and click “save” button to register for the course. You need to click “Confirm Course(s)” for confirmation. You are now registered for this course at the GIAN website (Please note that once confirmed, you cannot de register from the course). Now click “Print” tab on the GIAN website and save a PDF soft copy to your computer.

Step 3: The applicants will then have to upload this PDF soft copy along with additional details asked, to finally apply for the course at the IISER Thiruvananthapuram (IISER-TVM) online course application website http://workshop.iisertvm.ac.in/ cem3dip/index.php/application. Anyone applying at IISER-TVM website without uploading the GIAN registered PDF soft copy will not be considered for the course. The last date for receipt of applications at the IISER-TVM web site http://workshop.iisertvm.ac.in/ cem3dip/index.php/application will be 29 April 2016. Applications after 29 April 2016, 24:00 hrs will not be accepted even if you have registered at “GIAN Course Registration Portal” (Step1 and Step2).
